More and more people are working alongside their pension. Last December, Social Insurance registered 267,326 working pensioners. Of this number, 160,683 were old-age pensioners. For example, in December 2018 there were 253,714, and the year before 242,817.
No working pensioner pays insurance premiums for unemployment insurance, so he cannot even be entitled to this benefit.
Old-age pensioners can work without restrictions. So they can receive both a pension and a salary. However, it is different with early pensioners. They can only work on an agreement and earn a maximum of two hundred euros per month. Their annual income must not exceed 2,400 euros. If they earn more, Social Insurance will automatically stop paying the pension.
Even pensioners who work on a contract are entitled to the same benefits that the employer gives to other employees. They can thus take a vacation, they must receive tour tickets, and if more than 50 of them work in the company, they can also use the allowance for recreation.
On the other hand, they can receive benefits from the social insurance depending on what contributions they pay. “Working pensioners are entitled to benefits depending on the mandatory insurance they have from the employment relationship they entered into,” says Peter Višváder, director of the communications department. of them, the employer also pays insurance premiums for accident and guarantee insurance, if he is obliged to be guaranteed insurance. This means that they may be entitled to sickness, accident and guarantee benefits. Of course, after fulfilling all conditions established by law,” adds Višváder. For many pensioners, it is especially interesting that they also increase their pension thanks to work.
If working pensioners have an irregular income or work on any form of agreement, they only pay insurance premiums for old-age insurance, so their working period is counted only for pension purposes. The employer also pays accident and guarantee insurance for them, so they are also entitled to these benefits.
“If they are compulsorily insured by SZČO, they pay insurance premiums for old-age and sickness insurance, the period is therefore valued for the purposes of pension and sickness benefits. If they are without compulsory insurance, they do not pay insurance premiums, therefore they are not entitled to any benefits,” explains Peter Višváder.

The Social Insurance Agency increases the pensions of working pensioners automatically from January 1 for the period worked in the previous year. “A pensioner can request such an increase once a year, but only when he terminates the insurance relationship. If he has more than one, they must all be terminated. Earnings from all insurance relationships of a working pensioner are taken into account,” Višváder explained.
