Ordinary household products can sometimes be of great help in the fight against garden pests.
- Pest control on cabbage
- Repelling slugs and snails
- Prevention of late blight on tomatoes
- Soil disinfection
One such product is toothpaste. Due to its bactericidal properties and special composition, it is very effective.
Pest control on cabbage
Cabbage butterfly caterpillars damage this vegetable very much. A tube of mint paste weighing 50-70 g is diluted in a bucket of water with a volume of 10 liters.
The contents of the bucket are thoroughly mixed and left to infuse for 2-3 hours.
Then the liquid is mixed again and the cabbage is sprayed.
If necessary, you can replace the paste with tooth powder.
It is recommended to carry out the procedure on a calm, not rainy day, in the evening.
If it rained, do the treatment again. For best results, spray several times.
Repelling slugs and snails
Slugs and snails will not damage your plantings if you treat them with a toothpaste solution. Its specific smell, as well as the components that make up the preparation, repel pests.
For greater effectiveness, black pepper or mustard can be added to the pasta diluted with water. Their sharp taste and smell will not be to the taste of insects.
Additionally, along the path of the slugs, gravel, broken egg shells or nuts are sprinkled. Tooth powder has the same effect. It is simply poured into the beds.
Prevention of late blight on tomatoes
Tomatoes suffer greatly from a disease such as late blight. Affected plants can no longer be saved, they die. Therefore, it is best to take preventive measures so that the disease does not appear.
To treat phytophthora, a bleaching paste is used. It contains the most effective elements. A large tube is diluted in 2 liters of water, mixed thoroughly, then the liquid is added to a volume of 10 liters. The resulting mixture is sprayed with tomatoes so that the water abundantly irrigates the foliage both from above and below.
Soil disinfection
To prepare the soil for planting, make it more suitable and clean it of harmful microorganisms, toothpaste is also suitable. It also lowers acidity, the earth receives such useful elements as calcium and fluorine.
When preparing a solution for cultivating the land, use the following concentration: a tube of product for 3 liters of water. The soil can be shed in this way both in spring and summer.
Such a budgetary and simple way to protect plants from various pests and diseases can be used often. It is easy and does not require much effort and investment.
