The European Food Safety Agency has approved dried worms as a food that poses no health risks, writes Trud bg.
According to the Parma-based organization, it is perfectly safe for humans to eat whole or powdered worms.
The agency specifies that we should still be careful with what foods we combine them with so that their consumption does not lead to unwanted allergic reactions.
Insects such as grasshoppers, cockroaches, crickets and various types of worms are often called the food of the future because of their high protein content and the ability to be grown quickly and cheaply.
As recently as 2013, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Agency stated that insects are edible because they are low in fat and are good for human, pet and farm animal nutrition.
