The media write that Tutberidze’s daughter Diana Davis and figure skater Gleb Smolkin were allowed to change sports citizenship. Allegedly, such a decision was made in the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR). Information portal 1rre.ru refers to messages posted on the Twitter account The Skating Lesson.
What citizenship will the daughter of Tutberidze and Smolkin apply for?
According to journalist Dave Leese, the most likely country for obtaining a new sports citizenship is Georgia. Diana Davis, daughter of Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze, already has a US passport.
Nevertheless, Gleb Smolkin, apparently, will not be able to obtain American citizenship before the next Olympic Games. This negatively affects the prospects of a pair of skaters. It has not yet been reported what citizenship Smolkin can receive in the near future.
The journalist’s publication also indicated that the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) did not approve the change of sports citizenship for Annabel Morozova. She also intended to get a passport from another country to perform.
What did the father of Gleb Smolkin say about this
During an interview with the Match TV channel, Boris Smolkin, the actor and father of figure skater Gleb Smolkin, denied information about the possible change of citizenship of his son and Diana Davis, daughter of coach Eteri Tutberidze. He stated that he knew who wrote it. But this is just a fake, behind which there is nothing.
In September, the head of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation, Mariam Giorgobiani, called the possibility of a Davis/Smolkin transition a rumor.
In January, it was also noted in Israel that the idea of Russian figure skaters competing for Georgia seems ridiculous.
The Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) also said in January that the issue of changing Davis and Smolkin’s citizenship was not discussed.
